In Brazil, as many as 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 in children under the age of 9 have been reported.
Brazilian media reported that 948 children under the age of 9 had died from COVID-19 across Brazil from the outbreak of COVID-19 until the middle of last month.
The number of children who have died since then is estimated to be around 1,000.
As of the middle of last month, Brazil had 32 deaths per million children under the age of 9, the second highest in the world after Peru with 41.
Neighboring countries Colombia and Argentina had 13 and 12, respectively.
