[남기두의 눈] Football Association Personnel, Need to Discuss Recommendations from Third Organizations

The aftermath of the Korea Football Association’s’surprise pardon list’ is strong. The Football Association has not been able to come up with any countermeasures after the resignation of the vice-president and board of directors amid constant criticism from all walks of life.

The Football Association seems to know what a big deal it has committed only when the situation has reached this point. But it will never end with an apology. In order to become a football association that is not ashamed of the fans who have been protesting, it is right to use this opportunity to create a new opportunity.

In that sense, the resignation of the vice-chairman and board members can be said to be a reasonable result. However, it is very important to fill in new personnel afterwards. Prior to this, the internal system of the Football Association, which has been hidden behind a veil, must be completely overhauled.

It is also a problem that the Football Association announced a ridiculous amnesty, but the internal system that is working to make such an announcement is seen as a more serious problem. Otherwise, how could such a ridiculous list of pardons be drawn up?

Looking at the face of the pardon recipients, it is shocking, but looking at the fact that they announced that they would be pardoned by selecting such recipients, there would not have been enough internal discussion.

Since there was no discussion, the vice-presidents and board members would have had no opportunity to say anything at all at the Football Association, and even if they resigned, the Football Association seemed aware of it, so they were all speechless like dumb idiots who ate honey.

After that, if time goes by and it becomes quiet, the vice president and the board of directors will again be composed of people who suit the taste of the Football Association. In this situation, no improvement in the constitution of the Football Association can be expected.

At this opportunity, the composition of the vice-president and board of directors should be changed in a way recommended by a third-party organization, not the Football Association. A plan must be prepared so that various personnel can be formed so that the inside of the Korea Football Association does not become a stagnant person anymore. I think it is also necessary to discuss a bill in the National Assembly to designate an institution that can recommend various external figures, such as football association executives.

In particular, as can be seen through this surprise pardon, ‘soccer people’ must be excluded from the future composition of the vice-president and board of directors. Did the vice president and directors, who were former soccer players, strongly oppose this surprise pardon? Nothing has been revealed yet, but these questions are not easily erased.

One of the important factors in the remarkable growth of Korean football to the extent of achieving good results in the World Cup is the active support of the Football Association. It is not unknown that the current K-League’s work to achieve the perfect division system is so busy that there is no place beyond the reach of the Football Association, from life soccer to professional soccer.

However, it is very regrettable that there is no system to check internally, no matter how much the Korea Football Association has to applaud. As a result of this surprise pardon attempt, it seems that there is no shortage.

In order for the Korea Football Association not to repeat this embarrassing mistake any longer, or to not disappoint the people again, extensive reforms are absolutely necessary this time. It must be transformed into a football association for the people and for the people. Personnel reform and system reform are the first steps.
