18 of 27 wanted rioters identified in less than 24 hours!

The investigation related to the riots and looting that took place in the center of Liège on March 13, 2021 is continuing. On Wednesday, the police released 27 images of suspects and asked anyone who could identify them to come forward.

In just a few hours, more than half could be identified since only nine of them have not yet been recognized. Indeed, 18 rioters have already been identified, said the Liège prosecutor’s office, thus confirming information from L’Avenir.

These 27 people are, in fact, actively sought, because they are suspected of having participated in the riots of March 13 which ravaged the city center of the Ardent City. As a reminder, several hundred people had gathered in Place Saint-Lambert, in Liège, as part of a “Black Lives Matter” demonstration, in tribute to George Floyd, this American who died following his arrest by the police. . The situation quickly degenerated and gave rise to violent riots.

Thus, a few dozen young people had opposed the police on the spot. Several shop windows in Place Saint-Lambert had been smashed before the same shops were stormed by looters. While they were trying to intervene, the Liège police officers were violently taken apart, with cobblestones and street furniture, leaving 39 wounded in the police ranks. Calm had returned only in the evening.

Quickly, the identification of the perpetrators had been a priority. The images from surveillance cameras, as well as those taken by people who witnessed the riots, were scrupulously analyzed. This had already allowed, three months after the events, the arrest of a dozen or so thugs.
