19 | Dyson changes from vacuum cleaner to ventilator in just 10 days

-

  • Dyson – popularly known as a vacuum company – is committed to manufacturing 15,000 ventilators to help hospitals and health care providers run out of danger.
  • A company representative says the ventilators should be available around “early April”.

Dyson, the UK-based vacuum company, is working to manufacture 15,000 ventilators for COVID-19 patients as hospitals around the world reach patient capacity and suffer from a dangerous lack of adequate medical and personal protective equipment (PPE).

CNN reports that Dyson has received an order from the UK government for 10,000 ventilators as the National Health Service (NHS) continues to treat people infected with the virus. This new ventilator was called CoVent and is said to have been developed in 10 days.

According to the company, CoVent can be “quickly, efficiently and in large quantities” and should be available in early April. James Dyson himself said that he would donate 5,000 units “for international efforts”, 1,000 of which would go to the UK letter Sent from Dyson to employees, he mentions that the company “realigned the resources … to design and build a brand new ventilator,” which focuses on the Dyson digital engine.

Dyson added that the CoVent “should achieve a high quality air supply to ensure its safety and effectiveness, while leveraging our expertise in air purifiers that enable high quality filtration in large volume products.” Dyson said, that his company is also working to make CoVent “internationally available”.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease; It attacks the lungs under other parts of the body and can lead to serious health problems including pneumonia. John Wilson, an airway doctor, told The guard that the point at which COVID-19 reaches the respiratory tree is usually when they start presenting with cough and fever. From here, the disease continues to penetrate the lungs, where it can possibly reach the areas where gas is exchanged.

“If [these areas] When they become infected, they pour flammable material into the air sacs that are at the bottom of our lungs, ”says Wilson. If the sacks are compromised, they ignite, causing fluid to enter the lungs and pneumonia to occur. In this case, according to Wilson, the lungs lose a large part of their ability to absorb a sufficient amount of oxygen, which in turn makes it difficult for the body to excrete carbon dioxide. Here pneumonia can often be fatal and a ventilator can be a lifesaver.

A ventilator directs oxygen into the lungs and body through an endotracheal tube (ET), which is inserted into the trachea, and removes excess carbon dioxide to aid the breathing process. The machine acts as an artificial lung set and breathes for a person who cannot do this alone. Ventilators can even keep the lungs open to prevent the air sacs from imploding through a process called positive and expiratory pressure (PEEP).

Hospitals are tense and resource-saving as the influx of patients with COVID-19 continues. Ventilators are among the medical devices that are currently dangerously scarce. A deficiency that Dyson’s CoVent will hopefully alleviate.
