According to the Ministry of Health, 139 cases of serious or unexpected side effects have been identified in France. Five people have died after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Three deaths are recorded in Nancy. Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, reacted.
Common point between these deceased people: they were all over 75 years old and they suffered from comorbidities, specifies the Ministry of Health in an announcement made on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Three deaths were recorded by the regional pharmacovigilance center of Nancy (Meurthe -et-Moselle), one by that of Tours (Indre-et-Loire) and the last by that of Montpellier (Herault). The information is revealed by our colleagues from France Info.
The Ministry of Health announced Tuesday, January 19, that five people had died in France after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.
These are people who may have died in the days following the vaccination without showing signs of an allergic reaction following the vaccination.
The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, traveling to Nancy this afternoon spoke on the subject at the microphone of France 3 Lorraine: “these are people who may have died in the days following the vaccination without showing signs of an allergic reaction following the vaccination … In EHPAD, we are aimed at people who are very fragile, in loss of autonomy and often with a lot of illnesses and medications. And the causes of these deaths may be completely independent. As part of pharmacovigilance monitoring, there are obviously studies that are carried out by health authorities in conjunction with doctors to determine whether or not there is a link with vaccination or whether it is an unfortunate agreement. As soon as there is an alert, there is an investigation. If there is a strong suspicion, it may be suggested to do additional analyzes.“
As of January 18, some 480,000 people have been vaccinated in France.
