Mohamed “Mo” B., a 19-year-old young man, died in an accident on Tuesday noon in Meerhout, in the Antwerp Campine, announced the local police of the Geel-Laakdal-Meerhout area. The victim was driving a car that ended up in the ditch in circumstances that are still unclear. According to the first information revealed by the Gazet van Antwerpen, the motorist would have braked suddenly (surprised by another vehicle?) And skidded on the roadway before leaving the road.
A second occupant, his 13-year-old brother, became trapped in the vehicle after the crash. He was freed by the emergency services. Seriously injured, he was taken to hospital.
“Couldn’t do anything”
The spokesman for the Campine fire brigade confirmed the sad facts. “The driver’s side suffered a heavy blow. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do anything more for him… He died on the spot”.
The family, who went to the scene of the accident just after the tragedy, were confronted with horrific images. Assistance to victims was offered to them.
An investigation must now determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
