2022 F1 World Championship: Confirmed in 22 races without adding alternative race for Russian Grand Prix[F1-Gate .com]

F1 has announced that it will not add a replacement race for the canceled Russian Grand Prix and that the 2022 F1 World Championship will be contested in 22 races instead of the originally planned 23 races.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, after a meeting with F1, FIA and the team on February 25 this year, it was announced that the Russian Grand Prix scheduled to be held in Sochi from September 23 to 25 will not be held. ..

F1 announced on May 19th (Wednesday) that it will not add a Grand Prix to fill the hole in the Russian Grand Prix. It has been confirmed that the 2022 F1 calendar will have 22 races.

F1 immediately began looking for alternative venues to maintain its original plan of 23 races.

One of the early candidates was Qatar. Qatar, which held its first race at the Lusail International Circuit last year, will skip this year and return to the F1 calendar in 2023 due to its commitment to the FIFA World Cup. The September schedule was thought to be early enough to avoid a conflict with football tournament preparations, but there were concerns about the heat wave and potential impact on the audience.

On the weekend in Melbourne, the possibility of holding a second race in Singapore emerged, rumored to be a week ahead of the traditional Grand Prix and planned to be held early rather than a night race. Hockenheim also offered to host the return of the German Grand Prix, making Europe a potential candidate. However, due to logistical issues, it was not possible for F1 to move directly from the European venue to Singapore.

The key to the transaction was financing. F1 has been in a very different situation than in the last two years, with some venues offering cheap or free deals to maintain the number of races.
But given the level of global inflation and the dramatic rise in fares, the new race had to be economically meaningful for both the team and F1 itself.

In the end, none of the options fit and F1 decided not to run the 23rd race. This decision created a two-week gap between the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the end of the European round on September 11th, and the flyaway race at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 2nd.

This confirmation is well received by teams who are developing brand new cars on a busy schedule and are facing the challenge of falling below budget limits.
