Defeder Invests Millions in Expansion, Targets Smart Nutrition & Global Growth
Defeder, a leading animal nutrition and fertilizer company, is embarking on an ambitious expansion plan fueled by a €3.5 million investment aimed at increasing its market presence both domestically and internationally, with a strong focus on “smart nutrition.” The company’s strategy encompasses expanding production capabilities, bolstering its commercial network, and venturing into innovative product progress.
The company is building on its existing operations, Defeder is investing in its Huesca, Spain facilities. Here in the U.S., such expansions often translate into local economic boosts, creating jobs and fostering regional growth. As part of this the company will add new profiles for the development of new formulas, which will be added to the template of 60 personas. in addition, the possibility of implementing the second and third turn in the center of Albalate with four FP technical profiles professionals and in the metal-mechanical area.
These investments in Huesca will be completed with the million euros planned for the year 2026 that, this time it will be allocated to the production of pellets in Belgium where it has a plant in Alveringem to serve the European and international market. Forging a Global Footprint
Defeder currently exports its entire fertilizer catalog, with “foreign sales represent[ing] 60% of the production volume.” The company aims to solidify its position in key markets like Southern France and Spain, while also expanding its reach into Thailand, Vietnam and new territories.
Looking further afield, Defeder is setting its sights on Latin America to de-seasonalize sales and tap into new growth opportunities. This is similar to how many U.S. agricultural companies look to South America for counter-seasonal production and diversification. Defeder is participating in international fairs to capture new distributors for Cambodia, China and Japan.
Innovation in Nutrition
Defeder’s strategy also includes changes in Research and Development. The company has developed advanced technology, such as Powerdef to improve soil health and optimize crop nutrition. Now, the next step is to enter the intelligent nutrition that not only feeds the plant, “is like providing vitamins,” the new CEO clarifies.This product is being developed in greenhouses and is expected to distribute in different locations.With its launch,scheduled for next September,the company also hopes to boost its growth by the incorporation of new products and services with high technical differentiation.
Doubling the Billing
Defeder currently has a production capacity of 250,000 tons per year of fertilizers and 50,000 raw material for animal nutrition. Figures that are expected to maintain in 2025, exercise in which the objective “is not to increase, but to improve the production of more complex products in weighing, homogenization and packaged and with more added value.” By 2026, with the investment being planned, it is indeed expected that the productive capacity will be increased by 20,000 tons.
