The maritime affairs patroller, the Themis, intervened twice this Saturday to help two migrant boats trying to cross the Channel. The Gris-Nez regional operational surveillance and rescue center (CROSS) was first contacted by SAMU 62, then dispatched the Themis, indicates the maritime prefecture. Thirteen people were recovered.
In the process, the ferry Pride Of Canterbury raised the alert: another boat was in trouble in the Calais channel. Coastal maritime surveillance cruiser (VCSM) Scheldt of the maritime gendarmerie intervened to secure the area until the Themis came to the rescue of the 23 people in the boat.
The 36 migrants were directed to the port of Calais at around 10:30 a.m., where the border police were waiting for them.
