Samsung Lions pitcher Kim Yun-soo (25) will be sidelined for an extended period after undergoing surgery for a right elbow injury. The surgery, performed at a domestic hospital, addressed ligament damage, including a tear in the flexion of the right elbow.
Kim Yun-soo had initially returned too the Okinawa camp on October 13th after a brief absence due to an elbow injury. However, during a bullpen session on October 12th, he experienced renewed pain in his right elbow. Medical examinations revealed a right elbow curvature damage, prompting further tests that ultimately led to the decision for surgery.

Further tests showed ligament tears, including an internal ligament injury and a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). After consulting with the medical staff, we decided that surgery was the best course of action.

Kim Yun-soo: Yes, the surgery was successful, and I’m feeling a bit better every day. The procedure involved using a tendon graft to replaced the damaged UCL, basically rebuilding the ligament structure in my elbow. Recovery is a long process, and I’ll be working closely with the team’s medical staff to ensure I’m back on the mound as soon as possible.

Archyde: Recovery from such a serious injury can be challenging. How long do you anticipate being out, and what steps will you take to ensure a strong comeback?
Kim Yun-soo: Unluckily, with this kind of surgery, it might take about 12 to 18 months for a full recovery. I’m unlikely to pitch during the 2025 season, but I’m targeting a comeback in the 2026 season. During my rehabilitation, I’ll focus on maintaining a positive mindset, following the physical therapists’ guidance, and staying involved with the team as much as possible.
