647 patients with severe COVID-19… Highest ever

The number of cases of severe COVID-19 across the country broke the record for six days in a row. The number of deaths from COVID-19 is the highest on record.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said that as of 00:00 on the 28th, there were 647 critically ill patients in the hospital. The number is the largest since the outbreak of COVID-19, an increase of 13 from the previous day.

There were also 56 new deaths, the highest one-day death toll ever recorded. The cumulative death toll was 3,548, with a fatality rate of 0.8%.

There were 3,928 new confirmed cases that day, of which 3,893 were confirmed in Korea. There were 3,027 cases in the metropolitan area alone, with 1,668 cases in Seoul, 1,083 cases in Gyeonggi, and 276 cases in Incheon. The number of confirmed cases imported from abroad stood at 35.

Meanwhile, a total of 42.51,125 people have responded to the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since February. The rate of primary vaccination is 82.8% of the total population. A total of 40,0924 people had completed the second vaccination, accounting for 79.7% of the population.
