9-year-old boy becomes the YouTuber with the highest income in 2020

KOMPAS.com – Ryan Kaji, a 9-year-old who often does unboxing and review toys and games, has been named the YouTuber with the largest income in 2020. This is the third time Kaji has won the title.

Ryan, who comes from Texas, United States, earned US $ 29.5 million (Rp. 412 billion) from channel Youtube His Ryan’s World. This income starts from June 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020.

This income does not include other income which is estimated to reach 200 million US dollars (Rp 2.8 trillion).

Most of its revenue comes from licensing deals for the more than 5,000 products that appear on Ryan’s World, from clothing to bedroom decorations to action figures to masks to walkie talkie.

On top of that, Ryan is also known to have signed an undisclosed number of deals for his own TV series on Nickelodeon.

Ryan or what is often referred to as “child influence“first made a video in March 2015 after watching channel other toy reviews.

Currently, the boy from Texas has nine Youtube channels. Ryan’s World is the most popular channel with 41.7 million subscribers and 12.2 billion views.

Ryan’s most popular video, entitled Huge Eggs Surprise Toys Challenge, has been viewed more than 2 billion times. This makes it one of the 60 most watched videos on YouTube, as summarized KompasTekno from The Guardian, Wednesday (23/12/2020).

However, Ryan’s success was not without obstacles. Ryan and his family are currently facing investigations from the US Federal Trade Commission because of the advertisement.

Nearly 9 percent of Ryan’s videos are thought to include at least one paid product recommendation aimed at preschoolers. This group is considered too young to differentiate between advertisements and reviews.

“These advertisements often depict unhealthy food,” says consumer watchdog Truth In Advertising.
