Next year the 1100th birthday of St. Wolfgang will be celebrated at Lake Wolfgang. The preparations for this have long been in full swing, and a particularly pleasant working meeting took place these days in the Abersee Wiesenhaus. There, decision-makers from the three Wolfgangsee communities of Strobl, St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang tasted five beers from the Erste Wolfgangseer Braugesellschaft, founded in Strobl in 2016, to choose the birthday beer for 2024. The beer will be available around the lake in the anniversary year and in the years thereafter.
The jury consisted of around 50 people who chose their favorites from the five beers, but were also allowed to express additional requests. “Our task now is to develop a beer from these specifications by autumn,” says Michael Sams from the Wolfgangseer Braugesellschaft – and only wants to reveal this much: “It will be an unfiltered, light, natural beer.” That’s what is produced Beer then from partner breweries of the Wolfgangseer Braugesellschaft. Start of sales is early 2024.
“Beer was and is part of our culture at Lake Wolfgang,” says Josef Weikinger (ÖVP), Mayor of Strobl. “Even at the time of the pilgrimage, it was brewed in large quantities for the pilgrims.”
