“A Canine Rescued from a Fire-Damaged Apartment in the Heart of Brussels”

The fire department had to rescue a dog from an apartment on the second floor of a building. Although there were no injuries, the incident highlighted the importance of smoke detectors, according to Walter Derieuw, a spokesperson for the fire department. The apartment’s residents were not present during the fire, but a neighbor heard the smoke detector and alerted emergency services. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which started from a forgotten saucepan on the stove. The dog was taken away by rescuers and left in the care of a familiar cafe manager to recover from the ordeal until the residents returned.

There were no injuries, but firefighters had to save a pet, a dog, who was in the apartment. “This incident once again proves the usefulness of a smoke detector,” said Walter Derieuw, spokesman for the fire department.

The inhabitants of the apartment concerned, located on the second floor of the building, were not at home, but it was a neighbor who heard the siren of the smoke detector and who warned the emergency services.

“We forced the front door and quickly smothered the fire,” the spokesperson said. “The absent residents had forgotten a saucepan on the stove. During the search and rescue operations, the residents’ faithful four-legged friend was taken away. The dog was left in the care of the manager of a cafe he knows well to recover from his emotions and wait for his masters”.
