Amazing but dangerous. This Tuesday noon on the A54 motorway, linking Charleroi to Nivelles, motorists were able to come across a cyclist driving on the hard shoulder. It was notably filmed between the Jumet exit and Gosselies-Ouest, next to exit 22 and the Van Der Valk Hotel Gosselies, near the A54/E42 interchange.
Cap on his head, sunglasses, Bermuda shorts and backpack, the man seems to be riding a bicycle quietly, while he is on a highway.
A motorist captured the scene and posted it on social media. What caused a strong reaction: “Well what is a train and bus strike”, quips a surfer. Others underline the dangerous behavior of the cyclist: “Afterwards, it will still be the fault of a motorist”.
As a reminder, the motorways are prohibited from access to bicycles. According to the highway code, cyclists are always required to use lanes intended for them. According to Sudinfo, the police say they have not received any reports.
