a French coach sacked for having shunned an official ceremony

End of mission for François Ciccolini at USM Algiers. The French coach was sacked this Sunday, November 22 from the technical bar of the Algerian club, the day after the Algerian supercup match lost to CR Belouizdad (1-2).

Corsica was not sacked for this underperformance but for his refusal to take the official stand for the medal ceremony.

« The management of USM Algiers has decided to terminate the contract of Mr. François Ciccolini. This decision is motivated by the fact that Mr. Ciccolini did not appear in front of the officials during the award ceremony. “, Writes the management of the USM Algiers on its Facebook page, recalling that the” respect for the country’s high authorities is a red line not to be crossed ».

The French technician has not yet spoken to explain the reasons for his gesture.

The incident recalls that of the 2013 Algerian Cup final when the whole team refused to take the stand to receive the medals from the hands of Abdelmalek Sellal, then Prime Minister.

They thus intended to protest against the alleged partiality of the referee of the meeting in favor of the opponent, USMA, winner by 1-0. The president of the football section Omar Ghrib, the coach Djamel Menad and the player Faouzi Chaouchi had been heavily sanctioned, before being pardoned.

François Ciccolini was appointed coach of the USMA at the beginning of last August. He had previously worked in Algeria. In particular, in 2014 he directed the technical bar of JS Kabylie where he did not make any old bones (he was sacked after only two months by Moh Chérif Hannachi).
