A German climber was killed and another Austrian climber was injured after being surprised by an avalanche of snow. in the mountainous range of Mount Fitz Roy, in the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz, in southern Argentina, according to a statement released this Friday by Los Glaciares National Park. A third mountaineer, also a tourist, was able to descend and give notice of the accident that occurred this Thursday, which triggered the search and rescue, he said.

According to the statement, the deceased German climber was named Robert Srasegger and was found dead in the early hours of the morning of this Friday. Meanwhile, the Austrian patient, Ana Truntshing, 28, registers multiple injuries, and received the first aid in the remote area, then she was lowered on a stretcher on foot to the bridge of the Eléctrico river, on provincial route 41, from where she was transferred by ambulance to the El Chaltén health post and referred to the SAMIC High Complexity Hospital in El Calafate.

The accident occurred in the Fitz Roy mountain range, in the northern area of ​​Los Glaciares National Park, it was indicated, when They were climbing in the Piedra Negra area, where the mountaineers were surprised by a Snow avalanche.

The operation began on Thursday afternoon and ended after noon this Friday and demanded the participation of 44 people in the field, it was explained.
