Ten people have been arrested in recent days by local police in Asse, Merchtem, Opwijk and Wemmel (Flemish Brabant). They are suspected of being part of a gang of car thieves. Originally from France for the most part, they were placed under an arrest warrant by the examining magistrate, indicated the parquet floor of Hal-Vilvoorde.
“The gang is suspected of several thefts and attempted car thefts in the districts of Hal-Vilvorde, Charleroi and Nivelles“, Details a spokesperson for the prosecution. “The suspects rented cars in France before moving to us. They targeted the Toyota, Peugeot and Citroën brands. The stolen vehicles were taken to the clan’s base camp in Ittre before being distributed elsewhere.”
The police were able to apprehend a first suspect Monday evening in Leeuw-Saint-Pierre, aboard a vehicle which had been stolen in France. On Tuesday evening, the police raided the thugs’ headquarters in Ittre and seized the other nine suspects there. A recently stolen vehicle was also at the scene.
Eleven facts perpetrated from July 26 can be attributed to the gang. The investigation will have to determine if other facts are related to this traffic, specifies the parquet floor.
The ten suspects appeared on Wednesday and Thursday before the investigating judge who placed them under arrest warrant.
