a new virtual reality headset and more PC games

GQ Magazine spoke to Jim Ryan, PDG de Sony Interactive Entertainment. After discussing the postponement of Gran Turismo 7, the boss also discussed other subjects, such as the continuation of the PSVR and the adaptations of Sony titles on PC.

PlayStation VR 2

If the second version of the headset does not yet have a name, Jim Ryan announces that the format of the next-gen VR will be different. First, the helmet will be more technologically advanced. And above all, the cables will be simplified. Only one cable will be needed to connect the headset to the console.

Currently, the PSVR is connected to a box by huge cables, and the box is then connected to the console and the TV. “It was a very simple and visible illustration of a lesson we learned from iterating the current system to the new one. We are not releasing any specifications at this point. This will start to happen during this year when we talk more about it.”, explique Jim Ryan.

The helmet will be accompanied by new controllers, who “will incorporate some key features of the DualSense controller while emphasizing great ergonomics”Said Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president in charge of platform planning & management at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Nishino also clarifies that the helmet will not be released for 2021.
