A puppy rescued and adopted by a Liège firefighter (photos)

Sunday, May 8, Mother’s Day, the firefighters of the Hermalle station were called at 8:30 a.m. for a puppy stuck at the Haccourt bridge, between a barge and the edge. “When we arrived, the pup had become unstuck, crossed the canal again, and climbed up the inclined side,” says Johan, firefighter from the 2/1 platoon. “The puppy was very weak and hardly walked. We took it back with us to dry it at the station, while the police did their investigation.”

The puppy being chipped, it did not take long for the police to find the breeder who gave him the contact details of the owner. She had just adopted the puppy on Saturday morning from the breeder. The same day, at 11 p.m., she called the kennel back to return it, complaining that the animal did not suit her and was barking too much, especially during the night. Faced with a refusal, she mercilessly threw the animal the next day into the Meuse…

Today, very fortunately Tessy, who turned 3 months old on May 9, is doing well, and now lives with her savior! “I had been thinking of adopting a dog for a while at the insistence of my children”, testifies the firefighter.

Owner of four lots with goats and fallow deer, “I have space for a big dog”. “When I saw her she was what I was looking for and I didn’t want her to end up at SRPA.” Johan naturally decided to adopt Tessy, a magnificent Anatolian shepherd dog. “The owner wrote a letter of abandonment leaving the dog to us. I was able to recover his vaccination and identification booklet, and even his packet of kibble!”

The mascot

Since then, Tessy “has integrated herself very well into our family”. Pampered, she lives happy days. “She even became the barracks mascot,” smiles the firefighter.

A story that ends well thanks to the walker who warned the firefighters, their intervention and the adoption by one of them! Without their intervention, today Tessy would no longer be in this world. If Johan is delighted with this rescue, he denounces the unforgivable gesture of this lady who wanted to get rid of it like a vulgar waste. “I testify so that this does not happen again!”.
