A sector of Together for Change wants to stop the wetland law

Radical deputy Ricardo Buryaile, from Together for Change, openly rejected the wetland law on Monday, saying that the initiative “does not solve the problem of fires” in the Paraná Delta and denied that ranchers are responsible for these what else.

Started a key week for wetland law. After last Thursday the opposition pushed the ruling party to go to an intermediate room in the debate of the plenary of Natural Resources, Budget and Agriculture commissions, in these days the fate of the key initiative that seeks to regulate and protect wetlands could be defined. , including the Paraná Delta.

Buryaile’s opinion has its weight within Together for Change: is that he was president of the Rural Society and Minister of Agriculture of the government of Mauricio Macri. He is also the president of the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, in charge of promoting the treatment agenda.

“They say that the islands are set on fire by agribusinesses. Nobody sets fire to a field in May because they run out of food, because the grass does not sprout. There are poachers and natural issues that can happen. The fires are not going to end with the wetlands law,” said the legislator from Together for Change.

While the Frente de Todos bets that this coming Thursday there will be a favorable opinion to bring the project to the venue as soon as possible, in Together for Change they seek to pressure to stop the initiative or at least introduce changes to the text. For it, Buryaile organized for this Tuesday a meeting with different specialists linked to the field.

The appointment is at 3:00 p.m. in the Chamber of Deputies and the exhibition of “experts in the matter” is planned, according to the official invitation. The list of participants is not yet closed, among them there will be members of the Inta (National Institute of Agricultural Technology). It also transpired that agricultural, industrial, constitutionalist and civil organization representatives would give their opinion.

former minister of Mauricio MacriBuryaile expresses the harshest opposition of JxC, which denounces a certain “prohibitive” character of the wetlands law to carry out regional economic activities, mainly livestock or agriculture in areas that would become considered wetlands, and therefore subject to being protected.

JxC also questions the creation of a national inventory, a kind of map for each province to specify the locations of these spaces and define what characteristics they have and what functions they fulfill. They prefer that it be a task carried out by the districts, and not by the Nation.

exactly the radical Jorge Vara, with the support of Buryaile, presented an initiative along these lines. The position of the former Cambiemos official is that the standard must “make the environment compatible with production.” But in JxC there is no unified position: there is also another project -signed by the radical Ximena Garcia and the lilith Maximilian Ferraro– which adds the creation of a trust fund to finance the producers affected by the standard.

Meanwhile, the strategy of the FdT is commanded by Leonardo Grosso, chairman of the Natural Resources Commission and who gave in to Buryaile’s claim for the fourth intermission this week. He did not accept, however, that there are guests at the plenary session on Thursday. The intention of the referring deputy of the Evita Movement is that there be an opinion yes or yes.

Unconcerned by Buryaile’s move on Tuesday, the ruling party claimed to have the number of signatures necessary to issue an opinion on the initiative agreed by more than 500 environmental and social organizations. The project has the key support of part of the opposition, such as the Federal Interbloc – where they militate Graciela Camano and the socialists from Santa Fe–, and even from the Left Front.

In the FdT they also say they have the support of legislators – both Kirchnerists and opponents – from provinces where mining and agriculture are very important. They agreed to accompany the project if there were changes in different articles.

Behind Thursday’s horizon, Grosso bets on bring the initiative to the venue “as soon as possible”.
