A statement from the Public Prosecution regarding the assault of a healthy practice on 11 newborn infants…and the disclosure of the punishment issued against her

Al-Marsad Newspaper: An official source in the Public Prosecution stated that the Public Prosecution Office has concluded that a female citizen working as a health practitioner in the neonatal nursery department has been charged with assaulting (11) newborn babies.

And by looking at the surveillance cameras of the infant nursery room, it was found that the aforementioned exercised her work with great force and violence on the body of one of the infants, without observing the controls and medical standards established towards newborns for such cases, and it was also monitored that she assaulted his face by beating him three times, thus exceeding the limits of her responsibilities. The investigation procedures revealed that the aforementioned had repeatedly committed the criminal acts against (11) infants, justifying that by claiming work pressures.

She was stopped and the investigation procedures against her were completed, and by referring her to the competent court, a preliminary judgment was issued against her, convicting her of what was attributed to her, and sentencing her to imprisonment for a period of (5) years, and a fine of (100,000 riyals), one hundred thousand riyals.

The source pointed out that the Public Prosecution Office appealed the verdict and demanded that the penalty be increased for the accused in view of the heinousness of her felony against infants deprived of their will, and that what she did was a case of being entrusted with them and their lives and health by virtue of her job duties, lacking the ethics of the profession, its lofty values, and the correct humanitarian and legal principles in this aspect.

The source stressed that criminal protection for newborn children is considered one of the high guarantees prescribed by the Sharia and system, and includes their enjoyment of all health, social and security rights, stressing that practices and behaviors that would felony them or exploit the responsibility held by others towards them by assault, necessitate strict criminal accountability.
