A young man found dead in his tent during the Cocoon Festival in Chapelle-à-Wattines

This weekend was the famous Cocoon festival. Having already attracted 3,000 people during its first edition, the event welcomed for three days, on four different stages, many DJs (about a hundred) in the village of Chapelle-à-Wattines, at the chaussée de Bruxelles (Leuze-en -Hainaut).

Festival-goers could also take advantage of a campsite on the La Grenouillère site, which is well known in the region. They also had to follow strict rules. Any violation was subject to penalties that could go as far as pure and simple exclusion from the campsite and the festival.

Unfortunately, a tragedy shook organizers and festival-goers even though it was time to celebrate. On Sunday, in the wee hours of the morning, a 27-year-old young man from Charleroi was found dead in his tent by a campsite neighbour.

An investigation is underway

“A festival is a place where life, sharing and good humor make it a unique place… unfortunately, a tragic event has occurred in the Cocoon Festival campsite”communicated the organizers.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences to the parents and loved ones of the victim. We would also like to thank the campers for their patience, their understanding and the respect of the instructions. We also thank the police and the staff for the work carried out on place”.

Despite this drama, the festival continued on Sunday with artists such as Mark With a K, Bassbrain, MANDY or Da Tweekaz.

To date, the circumstances of the young man’s death remain unknown. The prosecution and the medical examiner quickly descended on the scene. An investigation is currently underway. However, the intervention of a third party seems excluded.
