The demonstration had been authorized by the municipality, according to the non-profit organization Mauto Défense, at the initiative of the action
“Numerous studies show that imposing very low maximum speeds is harmful for the environment and significantly increases consumption,” said Lucien Beckers, from the Mauto Défense association, which defends the rights of motorists and bikers.
“As for improving road safety, it is certainly desirable, but constantly reducing the authorized speeds disempowers and infantilizes good drivers, who represent the vast majority of motorists and bikers,” he added.
Since January 1, 2021, the Brussels-Capital Region has generalized the speed limit to 30 km / h throughout its territory, with a few exceptions.
