The Taliban have captured the entire Kabul airport, hours after the last US military plane took off from it and the foreign forces finally left Afghanistan.

Some Taliban commanders, led by Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, walked on the tarmac, surrounded by guards wearing special forces combat gear.

A Taliban propaganda website published clips of the group’s leaders at the airport, and in one of them, Mujahid thanked a group of the movement’s fighters for their efforts and congratulated them on “gaining independence.”

“I congratulate you and the Afghan nation. I hope our country will not be invaded again. We want peace, prosperity and a true Islamic order,” Mujahid said.
