After a break of several years, the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) dares to restart the traditional North American International Auto Show. The fair is slated to open its doors to visitors from September 17th to 25th. Before that, there will be two days for press and trade visitors as well as a preview for charity.
The organizers have presented a new concept: In addition to the previous venue, the Huntington Place Convention Center, various events are to take place in downtown Detroit. These will not only be limited to cars, but will also deal with mobility in general. The plan is reminiscent of the IAA in Munich last autumn with its “Open Spaces”. “We are proud to return to Detroit,” said DADA boss Rod Alberts.
The last regular Detroit Motor Show took place in January 2019. Even then, there were considerations to move it to the summer, because the manufacturers increasingly migrated to the CES, which also takes place in January. Like the other major auto shows, the NAIAS is struggling with a decline in visitors and criticism from environmentalists. Due to the corona pandemic, the fair has been canceled in the past two years. To replace it, there was a small event called Motor Bella in Pontiac, about 20 miles north of Detroit, in 2021.
