After the Kinder scandal, the director of the Ferrero group apologizes – rts.ch

After the recall of millions of Kinder products due to cases of salmonellosis in Europe, the director of the French subsidiary of the Ferrero group apologized in an interview in Le Parisien, speaking for the first time since the scandal.

“What happened is not acceptable. I’m sorry,” Nicolas Neykov, director of the French subsidiary of the Ferrero Rocher group, told Le Parisien.

In this interview, Nicolas Neykov specifies the origin of the contamination and recognizes a failure without being able to provide explanations on the scandal of the Kinder contaminated with salmonella.

It is “a filter located in a dairy butter tank” of the Belgian factory in the Ardennes which would be in question. The bacteria would have arrived there “either by contaminated raw materials or by people”, he explains. But how could such a malfunction happen? “Like you, everyone asks this question at Ferrero.”

Loss of 40% of turnover

Why not immediately stop the sale of Kinder when salmonella was found in December? “We reacted according to the information that reached us.” Nicolas Neykov promises that everyone affected will be compensated and that things will change so that this never happens again.

He also states that the group would have lost 40% of its turnover over the Easter period following this health scandal. The cost in terms of image is obviously considerable. The campaign to win back consumers is launched.

In mid-April, 150 cases of salmonellosis had been detected in nine European countries, mostly in children under ten years old.
