‘Age of Mythology Retold’ is presented as the definitive version of the classic strategy game

During the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the ‘Age of Empires’ series, those responsible have announced the revitalization of another video game linked to the franchise. Even without revealing launch plans, Microsoft promises that ‘Age of Mythology Retold’ will be the definitive version of the strategy classic.

Definitive Edition Treatment

“The gods will return. Heroes will rise. The legends will fight. Age of Mythology: Retold is coming. Bringing the Definitive Edition treatment to Age of Mythology, the game will include beautiful graphics, updated gameplay, and more. Stay tuned”, says the message spread by the company on social networks.

Until now, the new version of the strategy classic is surrounded by secrecy and we only have the references provided by the material distributed by the company: a short teaser trailer that shows the interior of an ancient temple, plains devastated by war and a Egyptian construction in the middle of the desert, to confirm that the game will make its debut directly on PC Game Pass.

Strategy and supernatural elements

Developed by Ensemble Studios, ‘Age of Mythology’ was released for Windows and MacOS in 2002. Borrowing elements from the ‘Age of Empires’ series, the format was noted for providing a reduced resource-gathering orientation while it allowed players to summon gods on the battlefield.

In 2014 an extended version was published, which adapted its systems to the hardware of the time and provided some improvements to the game as a whole. In addition, it opened the door for the release of the “Tale of the Dragon” expansion, with which the Chinese civilization, new magical creatures and strategic elements were incorporated.

In principle, it should not be ruled out that ‘Age of Mythology Retold’ is treated in a similar way to other similar Microsoft projects, titles such as ‘Age of Empire II: Definitive Edition’, which laid new foundations through numerous bug fixes and additions to the Format. At the celebration, it was also confirmed that the ‘Age of Empires’ series is on its way to Xbox Series X|S.
