Agreements of more than 1.4 billion dirhams to strengthen the health infrastructure

The Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb chaired, Wednesday in Fez, the signing ceremony of ten agreements with a total value of more than 1.4 billion DH, relating to the strengthening of the supply of care and upgrading of the health sector in the region of Fez-Meknes.

Signed by Mr. Ait Taleb, the wali of the Fès-Meknes region, governor of the prefecture of Fez, Essaid Zniber, the president of the council of the region, Mohand Laenser, the regional director of health, Mehdi Bellouti and others partners, these agreements reflect the particular interest that HM King Mohammed VI grants to the health sector and to the strengthening of the healthcare offer in the various prefectures and provinces of the Kingdom.

Four agreements are included in the framework of the 2020-2022 regional program contract and relate to the construction and equipment of a provincial hospital in Moulay Yacoub with an overall budget of 240 million DH including a contribution from the region of 80 million DH, the construction and equipment of a local hospital in Boulemane (110 MDH), the construction and equipment of a local hospital in Taza (nearly 100 MDH) and the construction and equipment of a local hospital in El Hajeb (50 MDH).

As for the other six agreements, they concern the partnership and cooperation component and target the construction and equipment of hospitals in Sefrou (200 MDH), Taounate (200 MDH) and Meknes (200 MDH).

They also relate to the construction and equipment of a hospital in Bensouda in Fez with a total budget of 200 MDH, the upgrading of other hospital structures in Ifrane (50 MDH) and the extension of the hospital. Ibn Al Hassan hospital for psychiatric and mental illness in Fez with an envelope of 30 MDH.

Other agreements were signed to strengthen the equipment of hospitals in the region through the acquisition of complete beds for resuscitation with the aim of ensuring the management of critical cases with Covid-19 at the level of the various prefectures and provinces of the region. A global investment of 40 MDH has been allocated for this purpose, with a contribution from the Region of 15 MDH.

These agreements come within the framework of the implementation of the strategic development orientations of the region of Fez-Meknes and the policy led by the Ministry of Health aimed at improving the supply of care and bringing health services closer to the population, especially in this pandemic situation.

In a statement to the press, the Minister of Health emphasized the difficulties experienced by health systems both in Morocco and internationally in these times of covid-19, stressing that ” the health system in Morocco has shown resilience despite the shortcomings ”.

The signing of partnership agreements is part of a participatory approach involving the various stakeholders with the aim of remedying these shortcomings, he noted, calling for the generalization of the experience of Fez- Meknes in terms of strengthening health care, to other regions of the Kingdom.

In a similar statement, Mr. Laenser underlined the importance of these partnership agreements signed with the Ministry of Health for the upgrading of the sector at the regional level, adding that they come after the signing of a series. agreements with the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research to boost the school and university offer and generalize preschool education in the Fès-Meknes region.

These actions are part of the efforts of the Regional Council to honor its commitments to strengthen health and education, two sectors that remain priorities for the Kingdom, he noted.
