Airbus remains the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer ahead of Boeing

Airbus has defended its position as the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer for the third year in a row. The European group delivered significantly more commercial aircraft in 2021 than arch-rival Boeing. Last year, a total of 611 aircraft were handed over to 88 customers, as the company announced on Monday after the market closed. That is eight percent more than in the previous year.

Airbus has thus achieved its self-imposed goal. “Even if there are still uncertainties, we are on the right track to increase production in the course of 2022 in order to meet the requirements of our customers,” said Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.

At the same time, the group collected 771 orders, twice as many as a year ago. Excluding cancellations, the order intake was 507 aircraft, which means that there are a total of 7082 aircraft in the order book. This gives Airbus a solid lead over Boeing: the US manufacturer had just handed over 302 aircraft to customers in the first eleven months.
