Bloomberg (paid link) has just thrown a new paving stone in the pond. Our colleagues have just published a new article devoted to AirPods and AirPods Pro next year. According to him, these models should mark a break in the history of the range. A real break.
The AirPods have been a hit that nobody really anticipated, one that has re-energized the wireless headphone market and brought in millions for Apple.
Building on this first success, the brand launched new AirPods shortly after, followed by AirPods Pro. That we were able to test.
AirPods 3 with an AirPods Pro look
At the end of last year, it took a whole new step by launching the very first headphones in its history: the AirPods Max. And now, of course, all eyes are on the new AirPods.
Expected for this year, they should resume the format and look of the AirPods Pro. We should therefore expect a more compact and curved rod, but also tips that come to rest inside the ear canal. All with an audio component revised for the occasion.
However, if we are to believe Mark Gurman, then Apple has no intention of stopping there. The firm would indeed prepare in parallel a new pair of AirPods Pro. And again, very big changes would be expected.
And AirPods Pro 2 stuck in quantified self
In terms of design, for starters, these new headphones could lose their stem and opt for a more discreet format. But above all, it is at the level of their entrails that one should expect something new. Mark Gurman and Debbie Wu indeed believe that the AirPods Pro 2 will be equipped with a brand new motion sensor.
Better yet, this sensor wouldn’t just be used to determine when the user takes off and puts their headphones back on. Apple would thus intend to exploit it with a view to quantified self. In other words, this famous sensor could allow the firm to better assess our efforts and monitor our activity.
When it comes to dates, on the other hand, we shouldn’t expect the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 to be released at the same time. The first would thus be expected for this year and the second for 2022.
Patience is therefore essential.
