Williams F1 Alex Albon finished 16th in the 2022 F1 Round 10 British Grand Prix qualifying.
This weekend, Williams F1 will introduce a major upgrade package to Alex Albon’s car with a Red Bull-shaped side pod shape. Teammate Nicholas Latifi is running the old specs.
Rumor has it that the upgrade package will be up by one second, but it hasn’t been able to show its power this weekend. On the contrary, ironically, Nicholas Latifi made his first foray into Q3, while Alex Albon lost in Q1. He questioned the decision to pinch the cool-down lap with no grip on the tires.
“It was raining today, but the conditions weren’t really a problem, the car felt good, but the grip on the second set of tires was weak,” commented Alexander Albon.
“Driving is a little different with the new update, but in Free Practice 3, I felt the car was pretty comfortable. I felt it was OK even in the rain in Q1.”
“At the end of Q1, I chose to do a cool-down lap, but the tires were getting too cold. The truck was starting to dry and everyone was starting to get faster, but I could find enough grip. It wasn’t. It was a difficult decision, but in the future I think the cool down lap wasn’t the best choice, but I’ll see what I can do tomorrow. We have a good car. And you have to go back and analyze it. “
