Dakar, March 7 (APS) – The mediator of the Mediature, Alioune Badara Cissé, wished on Sunday that the President of the Republic address the Senegalese people to call for calm, following the violent demonstrations that have occurred in the country.
It is yours (your voice, that of the President of the Republic) that the people want to hear. These Senegalese from here, in every nook and cranny of this country, want to hear from you, ” said Mr. Cissé.
Why the hell don’t we talk to them? We are no better than them. They entrusted us with their fate. We have an obligation to report, ” he said.
Alioune Badara Cissé added, speaking of the President of the Republic: “You have this capacity (…) to make yourself heard and to make you listened to. Do it before it’s too late. ”
“The litany of your achievements is enormous (…) But a single grain in the machine could derail it”, warned the mediator of the Republic.
He was speaking to the press following the violent demonstrations that erupted after the arrest of the opponent Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Senegalese Patriots for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (Pastef).
Mr Sonko, 2019 presidential candidate, faces charges of ‘repeated rape’ and ‘death threats’ leveled at him by an employee of a beauty and massage salon located in Dakar.
He is also being sued for “disturbing public order” and “participating in an unauthorized demonstration”.
