Doubts about botox: Dr. Cordero answers

When should I apply it? “In order not to show a tired appearance or the appearance of an elderly person, the application must be preventive, that is, before the wrinkle appears to prevent its appearance. In summer you have to take into account that the skin suffers a lot from overexposure to the sun, sweat, etc … so now would be the best time ”.

At what age can we start botox? “There is no age, each patient is different and therefore also different formation of wrinkles. It may be at 25 in some cases and not be necessary at 40 in others. The fundamental thing is to know the patient’s gesticulation and the type of skin they have, since a person who gestures a lot will tend to form many wrinkles, a person who gestures little may never need botox ”.

How does it apply? When should we do a touch-up? “Your application is very simple. The product comes in a powder suspension that the specialist dilutes in physiological saline to be able to apply it. It is loaded into a 1 milliliter syringe and applied by microinjections at certain established points. Before applying it, the patient is asked to gesture, because despite the fact that there are established points, each patient is different and it is necessary to find what wrinkles they form to inject it by means of small punctures. Of course, without anesthesia and in a very short time, just 10 minutes. Regarding touch-ups, the ideal is a review after 15 days. Then, the duration of botox depends on the patient, but more or less between 4-6 months ”.

Does botox have more uses? “He has them. In fact, now in summer the application of the toxin in the palm of the hands and armpits with the aim of stopping excessive sweating is gaining enormous popularity. A more widespread problem than we can imagine and that is solved with the application of botox in a strategic way in the mentioned areas ”.

Do you have any contraindications to going to the beach or pool during the summer? “The patient can go without any inconvenience, does not require rest or there are contraindications to sweating. In other words, it basically has no adverse effects ”.
