“The section radars now operate permanently on the Flemish motorways and only the tolerance of 129 km/h applies. In Wallonia, the last four section radars with high tolerance margins will be adjusted in the coming weeks so that all tolerance margins on Belgian motorways are reduced to 129 km/h by the end of August. Flashing from 129 kilometers per hour will also become the norm when new cameras are activated,” said Edward Lantsheere, spokesman for Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne in De Zondag.
The pilot project, which began last October, was to determine whether police and prosecutors can handle the increased influx of cases. In places with tolerance margins, a radar only flashed at 141 or 147 km/h.
The police and the prosecution will not encounter any problem with the increased influx of files, assures the Ministry of Justice.
