The railway manufacturer Alstom announced on Friday its intention to recruit 7,500 people in 2022 in order to meet growing demand and a record order book which reached 77.8 billion euros as of December 31.
The group wants to hire 6,000 engineers and managers as well as 1,500 workers and technicians. “These hires are intended for projects relating to rolling stock, signaling and services”, specifies in a press release Alstom, which today has 72,000 employees worldwide. This is 7,500 net recruitments, confirmed the group.
“The company doubled in size a year ago (with the takeover of Canadian Bombardier Transportation), we are present in 70 countries and our order book is quite significant, so we have needs all over the world to carry out the contracts,” said the group’s director of human resources, Anne-Sophie Chauveau-Galas.
People specialized in mechanical and system engineering
Recently, Alstom, for example, won a contract to supply 200 regional trains to the Norwegian public company Norske Tog for 1.8 billion euros or 25 fast trains to the Swedish railway company SJ (680 million euros). .
In detail, the group is looking to recruit 3,900 people in Europe, 1,700 in Asia-Pacific, 1,500 in North and South America and 400 in Africa, Middle East and Central Asia. Among these vacancies, a thousand are in France, where the company’s headquarters are located. Alstom is particularly looking for people specialized in mechanical and systems engineering, services, but also qualified welders for its production sites.
Worldwide, the manufacturer has announced that it wants to recruit project and tender managers and highly qualified profiles in the tech field such as system engineers or data scientist specialists.
“Attracting more women to technical professions”
“We would also like to attract more women to technical professions”, underlined Anne-Sophie Chauveau-Galas, specifying that the company wanted to increase the proportion of women among managers and engineers from 23% to 28% in 2025.
Alstom presented excellent results on Thursday with sales up 5.2% in the third quarter of its staggered fiscal year. The company expects annual revenue growth of 5% on average by 2024-2025.

In Europe, the group also intends to adjust its production capacity in Germany, where Bombardier Transportation has a strong presence, by focusing more on signaling and services to the detriment of the production of rolling stock.
