LOS ANGELES – Mexican singer-songwriter Ana Bárbara received the Icon Award this Tuesday in Los Angeles during the 30th edition of the BMI Latin Awards for her contributions to Latin music throughout a career that spans nearly three decades.
“I am a person who has always believed in her dreams, although I have also had many falls,” summarized the visibly emotional artist as she went on stage to collect this award from BMI, one of the three largest music distribution rights organizations in USA.
The “Reina Grupera” thus became the first Mexican regional singer to be honored with this award that had previously gone to figures such as Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Juan Luis Guerra, Los Tigres del Norte and Los Lobos.
“We don’t even know where the inspiration comes from (…) but I have to say that I was first a fan of other women like Ana Gabriel,” added the composer who was presented by BMI as “a celebrity whose music has traveled all over the world.” world”.
Immediately afterwards, Ana Bárbara thanked “life” and her “family” for the recognition and lavished herself on interpreting some of her most recognized songs, such as “Lo busqué”, to the delight of a hundred attendees at the gala.
During this, the singers Alisun Solís, Adriana Ríos and Angélica Gallegos paid tribute to the Mexican by covering the song “Forbidden Fruit” accompanied by the Mariachi Divas group.
Since its beginnings in the early 1990s, the artist has won a Latin Grammy, has sold 16 million records, and 33 songs from her repertoire have managed to reach number one on the Billboard magazine hit list.

The BMI Latin Awards honor every year the most outstanding exponents of Latin music in the last year within different categories that go from best song and composer to the award for editor of the year.
Songs like “Todo de ti”, “El Makinon”, “Yonaguni”, “Moscow Mule” or “Tití me pregunta”, among others, were awarded in the section for best song of the year and “Pepas” became the theme contemporary of the course.
Also, the Puerto Rican Tainy won the award for contemporary Latino composer of the year, while the Mexican Edgar Barrera won the Latin Impact of the year award.
