Michael Andretti urged the FIA (International Automobile Federation) to accept his team as the eleventh team on the F1 grid, asserting that his team “defeats everyone.”
In February of this year, it was revealed that Michael Andretti is aiming to participate in F1 in 2024 by establishing “Andretti Global”.
Andretti Global has applied for F1 entry with everything from personnel to equipment to an engine contract with Renault, but the FIA has not yet said yes or no.
In fact, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says he is happy with the 10 teams that make up the current F1 grid.
“I need to be very honest. As of today, 10 teams of F1 are on track and very solid,” said Stefano Domenicali.
“There’s the complexity needed to consider whether we can add other teams, and to be honest, I don’t think it’s the most important factor in growing F1.”
But that’s not a complete no to Andretti Global. Michael Andretti hopes to have a go-ahead for Andretti Global soon.
“I talked to (Liberty Media CEO) Greg (Maffei) and told him,’I want you to proceed with the bid. We’ll beat everyone,'” he told AP.
“That’s all I want.”
“They don’t give it to us. Let us challenge. We’re going to beat anyone there. We have great backers. Money doesn’t matter. “
But while F1 is expanding the calendar, sports don’t seem quite keen on expanding the grid.
Last weekend, this year’s calendar hosted the first Miami GP of two American races. There will be three next season, and the Las Vegas GP will be held as an event on Saturday night.
With the growing popularity of F1 in the United States, the question arises as to whether the second American team (Haas first) will benefit the sport.
Greg Mafei said, “There are many factors and being an American may be positive, but we will consider everything the new team can bring. That’s all we have to access new markets. Not, “he told AP.
