Anti-Abortion Activist Scales Building in Downtown Phoenix – NBC Denver

PHOENIX, Ariz. – An anti-abortion activist is safe after scaling the Chase Tower in downtown Phoenix Tuesday morning, the Fire Department confirmed.

The incident happened at the building located near Central Avenue and Van Buren Street around 9:30 am, after a person was reportedly climbing the 40-story building.

Upon arrival at the scene, rescuers found a man climbing a three-foot-wide external ventilation channel approximately 15 stories above the ground.

Firefighters immediately organized rescue operations and tried to contact the man. After making contact, the man told them that he was a professional climber and that his intention was to reach the top of the building.

An hour after the incident was reported, the man reached the 40th floor, and at that time the firefighters performed a medical examination as a preventive measure.

It was about an anti-abortion activist who calls himself “Prolife Spiderman” or the “Pro-Life Spider-Man.”

The man, named Maison DesChamps, was taken into custody and faces criminal charges.

Mayra Rodríguez, a pro-life activist who witnessed the incident, said that “when he scales the buildings, he raises funds” so that pregnant women “don’t have to see abortion as an option.”
