President Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated that the Pfizer vaccine against covid-19 has already reached almost the entire country, after an operation to distribute the doses by the Armed Forces.
Yesterday, the president announced a plan to take the antigen to all the states of the Republic, in which the Ministry of Health, National Defense and the Navy participated, which was implemented in the afternoon.
“The results are good. Now we are going to report that vaccines have arrived practically throughout the national territory so that doctors, nurses, health sector workers, who are in covid-19 hospitals, are attended first, ”he said.
In La Mañanera, the President reiterated that the purpose of his government is to vaccinate the entire Mexican population in a universal and free way. Now that vaccines are available, the objective is to carry out the plan and prioritize by age and risk groups, “that this right to health is guaranteed.”
“It is a matter of having a sufficient dose and also the ability to distribute and vaccinate as soon as possible. I remember again, if at the end of March we have all older adults vaccinated, mortality from covid-19 is reduced by 80 percent, that is why it is urgent, “he said.
For his part, the Secretary of Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, reported that 94 percent of scheduled vaccine deliveries were completed, equivalent to the coverage of 828 hospitals out of the 879 in total. The remaining six percent corresponds to 51 health centers in Oaxaca and Chiapas.
“It was not possible to conclude it due to weather conditions, there is a stationary front that prevented us from carrying out scheduled helicopter flights in two states,” said the official.
Despite this, he declared that two flights have already left, one to Tuxtla and the other to Oaxaca, to finish the pending around noon. To achieve complete distribution, 8,600 members of the Army, Navy and National Guard and 716 vehicles were used.
“The operation was carried out without major incidents, more than these meteorological conditions, there were places where troops had to be increased to make the operation faster,” he said.
