Apple is finally expanding its efforts to improve its maps application with the start of collecting images of Brazil, allowing it to improve the tool’s data and increase compatibility with the “Look Around” feature — a function similar to Google Street View, which allows you to navigate streets and roads through 3D images.
Starting this Tuesday (03) in the Southeast region of Brazilthe company’s terrestrial research team is using vehicles to collect information that improves the quality and accuracy of existing maps, updating them with data that may be important for users who navigate using their iPhone or iPad.
In places where vehicles cannot access, Apple has dedicated a pedestrian survey team. The company highlights its commitment to protecting the privacy of residents by censoring faces and license plates in images that will be published in the “Look Around” feature, as is the case on Google Maps, its main competitor.
The images of the Southeast region will be recorded from today and should end in mid-November 3, 2024, therefore, it will take more than a year of research. Still in 2023, the company also intends to start collecting map data from the Central-West region of Brazil, specifically on October 23rd. See the schedule:

Meanwhile, many users of the brand’s devices still prefer Google Maps which, in addition to receiving integration improvements with the rival platform, tends to offer more complete features in all countries.
