Response after at least two Israeli companies exploited a flaw in Apple’s software to remotely invade the iPhone without user intervention.
Apple is suing Israeli cyber company NSO Group and its parent company OSY Technologies, which sells the spyware “Pegasus” that enables such attacks.
The lockdown mode is installed in iPhone, iPad, and Mac. When this feature is enabled, most attachments sent to the iPhone’s messaging app will be blocked.
It also blocks the wired connection of the locked iPhone.
Apple officials said the new feature’s targeting trick, called “zero-click,” is still relatively rare and most users don’t need it.
