The ZenBook 17 Fold is one of the outstanding machines of the year. We weren’t totally convinced by everything the PC offered for its price, but its folding design impresses with the new possible uses. It’s hard to imagine the future of the laptop PC without a foldable screen allowing it to give a much more comfortable display on demand.

Apple also seems to be thinking about it, according to the media The Elec.

A 20-inch OLED screen

According to the site, Apple is working on a MacBook with a foldable 20-inch screen. The Zenbook Fold used a 17.3-inch screen. The slab used by Apple would come from an unknown supplier in South Korea. We obviously think of Samsung, which has made a name for itself in the field with its range of folding smartphones. Asus had partnered with the Chinese manufacturer BOE for the screen of the Zenbook Fold.

A Mac or an iPad?

According to other rumors, the first Apple product equipped with a folding screen would arrive as soon as 2024 and would be part of the iPad range. Here, The Elec is rather betting on a release in 2026 or even 2027 for the 20-inch PC. A folding screen generally implies a tactile use of the product, but Apple has always refused to offer a touch screen on its MacBooks.

A 20-inch diagonal screen unfolded could give a 15.3-inch screen when folded, a size close to the larger iPad Pro or 16-inch MacBook Pro. In any case, we would most likely be dealing with a very expensive device.

If this project were to succeed, it could also be the first MacBook to be equipped with an OLED screen. Until then, Apple only offers LCD or miniLED screens on its laptops. Oled screens are reserved for iPhone and Apple Watch.
