Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Interior and Safety and Foreign Minister Park Jin, who passed the deadline for re-sending the personnel hearing report, were appointed today.

President Yoon Seok-yeol forced the appointment of two of the ministerial candidates for whom the personnel hearing report was not adopted.

“There is a lot of work to be done due to the Korea-US summit scheduled for the end of this month and local elections next month,” he explained.

However, the nominee for Minister of Health and Welfare Jeong Ho-young was not appointed.

President Yoon also considered appointing nominee Chung, but it is known that the opinion of the ruling party, who requested to suspend the appointment, saying that there was a lot of public opposition, was reflected.

The Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee Young and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Lee Chang-yang were additionally appointed late in the afternoon after the personnel hearing report was adopted.

The first cabinet meeting of the Yun Seok-yeol administration was held with the ministers of the new government and the current Minister of Welfare Kwon Duk-cheol in attendance. An additional supplementary budget in the size of KRW was approved.

“It is the duty of the state to compensate the people for the loss incurred in the process of implementing the Corona virus quarantine.”

President Yoon said, “We have raised funds without issuing government bonds through expenditure restructuring and excess tax revenue.”

However, the Democratic Party emphasized the retroactive application of loss compensation and proposed increasing the compensation amount to 47 trillion won.

“If it is a restaurant with more than five or six people, almost all industries are covered. Such industries were not eligible for loss compensation this time. The Yun Seok-Yeol government virtually canceled its promise of retroactive application.

Is it 36 trillion won in compensation or 47 trillion won in compensation?

A fierce battle is expected in the process of passing the National Assembly in the future as the opposition and opposition parties have different views on the size of the supplementary budget centered on loss compensation ahead of the local elections.
