Are you going to France this summer? The health pass remains compulsory at the border

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said it expects “high levels” of Covid-19 this summer in Europe and called for monitoring the virus closely after a tripling of daily cases for a month. “As countries across Europe have lifted the social measures that were in place, the virus will circulate at high levels over the summer”said the director for Europe of the UN organization, Hans Kluge.

Mask in transport, vaccination pass to present at the restaurant or at the cinema… Many European countries have indeed abandoned most of the restrictions issued during the health crisis. Yet some persist. In France, for example, the vaccination pass remains compulsory when entering the territory.

Regardless of the country of origin, travelers wishing to travel to France must therefore be able to present this document. This document is all the more checked if you take the plane to go to France.

Here are the rules that apply at the French border, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

– For vaccinated travelers within the meaning of European regulations, you must be able to prove your complete vaccination schedule. This includes a basic vaccination certificate (1/1 dose or 2/2 doses), the last dose of which was administered less than 9 months ago. Or a booster vaccination certificate. The booster vaccination is valid indefinitely.

– For unvaccinated travellers, you must present a negative test (PCR test less than 72 hours old, antigen test less than 48 hours old). The measures on arrival (test, isolation) are lifted when they come from countries on the “green” list, characterized by a moderate circulation of the virus.

– When unvaccinated travelers come from a country on the “orange” list, they must continue to present a compelling reason justifying the need for them to come to mainland France and may still be subject to a random test upon arrival. Travelers who test positive will have to isolate themselves, in accordance with the recommendations of the Health Insurance.

Controls can be more or less severe

In an interview given to Figaro, the Air France company ensures that it continues to request the health pass from travelers arriving in France. Some travelers, however, told the daily that they were able to disembark without control. “Travellers are checked at the airport of departure and no longer systematically on arrival. It therefore depends above all on the country of origin: in fact, checks can be more or less severe depending on the country”justified Paris Aéroport in Figaro.

Since March 14, however, this pass is no longer requested in restaurants and places of leisure. It remains necessary to go to a health establishment, retirement homes or establishments welcoming fragile or disabled people.
