ARM devices on Windows, the prices are too expensive according to Qualcomm

Windows is offered on different platforms including ARM. During the announcement, Microsoft did not mince its words with the announcement of a large choice of devices, high performance and a nice increase in battery life.

The avalanche of new products (ARM) had to be ensured by the giant and especially its partners. A few devices have seen the light of day but we are still a long way from all of these promises. Windows 10 on ARM has yet to take off. What is going on ? Where is the problem ?

According to Qualcomm the reason is simple. The prices are too high. Clearly the devices offered are much too expensive. It becomes difficult to invest in such platforms knowing that “Smart” alternatives are available at similar prices.

Windows 10/11 on ARM, the price weighs on its success

At least that’s what Qualcomm’s senior director Miguel Nunes believes. In one interview he specifies that the first Windows ARM devices had “inadequate prices.” Microsoft has tried to resolve this situation with more affordable Surface models, but the response has to be generalized. The entire ecosystem must follow this path in order to deliver cheaper Windows ARM devices.

Launched in 2017, Windows 10 on ARM has since evolved considerably. Now the operating system supports x64 emulation. Microsoft said it is continuously working with Qualcomm to evolve its platform.

“As developers increasingly support ARM64 applications natively, x64 application emulation is an important step in our journey with Windows 10 on ARM. Through collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Windows 10 on ARM PCs continues to deliver incredible battery life, connectivity capabilities with 4G LTE and 5G, and immersive experiences with AI acceleration, stylus and touchscreen – all features we think are most essential when working, learning and connecting from home and other remote locations ”

It is currently difficult to predict the future of this OS. It seems that the “price” variable is one, if not THE essential parameter to hope for the start of success.
