The latest installment in the adventures of Asterix the Gaul was the best-selling book in France in 2019, according to the assessment of the best annual sales of books to be published Friday in the professional magazine Weekly Books.
With 1.573 million albums sold, the 38th volume of Asterix, The daughter of Vercingétorix (Albert René, Hachette Livre group), largely dominates the rest of literary production, with a performance similar to that of the previous volume, published in 2017, Asterix and the Transitalique, which had sold 1.59 million copies, reveals the study carried out by the GfK institute.
Guillaume Musso sold 1.4 million of his books in 2019
Two books by Guillaume Musso (favorite author of the French for the ninth consecutive year according to a parallel study by GfK published Thursday by The literary Figaro) occupy the other two podium places. The pocket edition of The Girl and the Night (The paperback) sold 565,237 copies and the large format of the year by the best-selling author, The Secret Life of Writers (Calmann-Lévy) sold 391,000 copies.
