Athletics: Ethiopian Gidey breaks 10,000m world record

Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey broke the 10,000m world record on Tuesday during the Ethiopian Olympic selections in Hengelo (Netherlands), erasing the record set two days ago on the same track by the Dutch Sifan Hassan.

In 29:01:04, Gidey (23) erased Hassan’s 29:06:82 and now holds the 10,000m and 5,000m world records (14: 06.62 in October 2020).
