Austria – More than 2,500 new corona infections

On Wednesday (as of 9:30 a.m.), according to the Ministry of Health and the Interior, more than 2,500 new infections have been registered since Tuesday. 20 people have died from or with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. There was also an increase in the number of patients in intensive care units from 296 to 313.

Within one day, 2,553 people in Austria received a positive PCR test. On average, 2,135 people with SARS-CoV-2 tested positive for the past seven days. The seven-day incidence (per 100,000 population) thus increased from 161.8 on Tuesday to 167.9 on Wednesday. The proportion of positive PCR tests in the past 24 hours – a total of 51,188 were carried out across Austria – was thus already five percent. The day before, this value was 3.2 percent with a total of 60,618 PCR tests.

The hotspot for new infections was Vienna with 690 positive tests, but most tests were carried out in the federal capital with 30,400 tests throughout Austria. Thus, the share of positive tests in Vienna was 2.2 percent. In comparison: Burgenland is one of the federal states with the fewest new infections (135), but the proportion of positive tests is 15.8 percent of the 663 tests carried out within the past 24 hours. From Tuesday to Wednesday, Lower Austria had 603 new infections (6,859 PCR tests, 8.5 percent positive), Upper Austria 290 (1,981 PCR tests, 14.6 percent positive), Styria 282 (2,772 PCR tests, 9.9 Percent positive), Carinthia 192 (1,313 PCR tests, 14.3 percent positive), Tyrol 171 (4,327 PCR tests, 4.0 percent positive), Salzburg 156 (1,458 PCR tests, 10.6 percent positive) and Vorarlberg 34 (1,415 PCR tests, 3.0 percent positive).

There was a further increase in the number of patients in intensive care units. On Tuesday, 296 people had to be treated in intensive care, now there are 17 more. There was a slight relaxation among those hospitalized, as there was a decrease from twelve patients to 1,415. Within the past 24 hours, 20 deaths in connection with a corona disease were recorded. 8,625 people have died from it since the beginning of the pandemic. In the past seven days there was an average of 22.1 top desopping victims. That means 96.9 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.

465,322 people have been infected in Austria since the outbreak of the corona pandemic. 435,699 have recovered from this. 21,028 people are currently suffering from SARS-CoV-2. That’s 737 more since Tuesday.
