Axel Springer and ex-DFL boss Seifert are developing a sports streaming service

Dhe media group Axel Springer and the longstanding managing director of the German Football League (DFL), Christian Seifert, are jointly developing a streaming platform for league competitions and outstanding individual sport events beyond football. The start is planned for autumn 2023, as Springer announced on Monday in Berlin. The aim is “to create a new media home for millions of German sports fans who are enthusiastic about leagues and sports beyond football”.

The new streaming portal is also intended to increase the perception and appreciation of sports such as handball, basketball and ice hockey. The offer is aimed directly at end customers, but should also be available via platforms that are already available on the market, Springer announced.

According to the information, the media group has a majority stake in the start-up founded by Seifert. He continues to hold a “significant share” and acts as managing partner. The streaming service’s brand name is expected to be announced later this year.
